La trilogie de la cabane

Between 2000 and 2016, Belgian filmmaker Eric Pauwels crafted three highly original, distinctly artisanal works that he referred to as his “Trilogie de la cabane” (“Cabin Trilogy”). The title refers to the blue hut in Pauwels' garden, but it also evokes a fertile space of memory and imagination. In Lettre d’un cinéaste à sa fille, the filmmaker playfully answers his daughter’s question: “Daddy, why don’t you make films for children?” In Les films rêvés, Pauwels dreams of a film containing all the other films he has ever imagined, while La deuxième nuit revisits his relationship with his mother and how her passing has changed his way of seeing the world. Together, these films form an oeuvre that is both deeply personal and highly imaginative: an adventurous celebration of the power of dream and art.
